An aspiring writer falls under the spell of an aloof millionaire with designs for the young scribe’s unhappily married cousin in director Baz Luhrmann’s adaptation of F. Meanwhile, across the bay, Carraway’s cousin Daisy (Carey Mulligan) flounders in her marriage to philandering aristocrat Tom Buchanan (Joel Edgerton). Inspired by the debauchery on display at Gatsby’s wild parties and the lives of the wealthy elite, Carraway begins putting pen to paper as it gradually becomes clear that his cousin and the millionaire share a complicated romantic past that remains unresolved. Isla Fisher, Jason Clarke, and Elizabeth Debicki co-star. Baz Luhrmann’s adaptation of the classic F. Scott Fitzgerald novel “The Great Gatsby” is first and foremost an event, painted front to back with an exuberance, panache and kitsch to rival even the most outlandish of Jay Gatsby’s Long Island parties.
The initial reaction to this “Gatsby” might be that it’s all style over substance, which, in a way, is Luhrmann’s point. His production accentuates the carnival-esque lifestyle certain New York City socialites maintained on a day-to-day basis during the roaring 20s. The sets, costumes, music and overly stylized tone reflect the exorbitance of these vapid characters and Luhrmann’s ace card is that he tricks the audience into accepting this hollow lifestyle of gossip, booze and materialism just like his narrator Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire).
This world that Luhrmann has designed is so sumptuous it is easy to get lost in the details. The circus of visual effects, elaborate camera work, jaw-dropping sets and gorgeous period costumes (designed by Luhrmann’s wife Catherine Martin), exemplify these characters’ skewed perceptions of reality, love and distraction of materialism and their hollow notion of love. These are all lost and empty characters and Luhrmann’s style perfectly complements Fitzgerald’s cynical view of the whole charade.
Certainly people will have their preferences when it comes to Luhrmann’s bohemian style, but Fitzgerald’s book lends itself very well to this adaptation. This film is very faithful to the book, despite the visual and auditory choices. All of Fitzgerald’s original creation finds its way into this film, even going as far to include quite a bit of the original dialogue.

The night after another unsatisfactory New Year party, Tim’s father tells his son that the men in his family have always had the ability to travel through time. Tim can’t change history, but he can change what happens and has happened in his own life—so he decides to make his world a better place…by getting a girlfriend. Sadly, that turns out not to be as easy as you might think.

Moving from the Cornwall coast to London to train as a lawyer, Tim finally meets the beautiful but insecure Mary. They fall in love, then an unfortunate time-travel incident means he’s never met her at all. So they meet for the first time again—and again—but finally, after a lot of cunning time-traveling, he wins her heart.

Tim then uses his power to create the perfect romantic proposal, to save his wedding from the worst best-man speeches, to save his best friend from professional disaster and to get his pregnant wife to the hospital in time for the birth of their daughter, despite a nasty traffic jam outside Abbey Road.

But as his unusual life progresses, Tim finds out that his unique gift can’t save him from the sorrows and ups and downs that affect all families, everywhere. There are great limits to what time travel can achieve, and it can be dangerous too.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. summary: Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) returns to the worldwide law enforcement organization S.H.I.E.L.D. He puts together a small, highly trained, team of Agents to tackle the cases that haven’t been classified yet, the new, the strange and the unknown.
That team consists of straight arrow Agent Grant Ward (Brett Dalton), an expert in combat and espionage; pilot and martial artist Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen); and brilliant if socially awkward scientists Agent Leo Fitz (De Caestecker) and Agent Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge). They’ll be joined by civilian new recruit and computer hacker Skye (Bennet). It wasn’t long after Marvel’s The Avengers wowed many a critic and became the highest-grossing superhero blockbuster of all time (over $1.5 billion worldwide), that the comic book movie studio officially set Joss Whedon to be the head creative supervisor on Phase 2 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe – with his duties including writing and directing The Avengers 2, in addition to producing a live-action television series that , as our Rob Keyes predicted, will revolve around S.H.I.E.L.D. (and the organization’s non-superpowered, but heroic employees).

Production on the S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot wrapped nearly two months ago, but ABC has yet to formally pick it up to series (though, the network is expected to do so in the foreseeable future). In the meantime, we can offer additional plot details and a fresh character breakdown for the pilot – in addition to a potential new title, in the form of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (or just Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for short).

The new title and synopsis first appeared on ABC’s website for advertisers, but EW thereafter learned from a network representative that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is not the official title (… yet, anyway). Marvel is giving wordier titles to its upcoming Phase 2 movie sequels like Thor: The Dark World and Captain America: The Winter Soldier – as opposed to the numerically-marked Iron Man installments – but it might be hesitant to do likewise with a S.H.I.E.L.D. TV show, especially given the tendency for hit series to have one or two-word titles (with obvious exceptions, such as How I Met Your Mother).

By letting the cat out of the bag early, ABC and Marvel now have an opportunity to survey general responses to the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. title – and find out if people tend to prefer either that or the original S.H.I.E.L.D. title. Either way, it won’t have an impact on the quality of the show; not to mention, unwieldy titles haven’t been a problem for Whedon’s previous small-screen hits (be it Buffy the Vampire Slayer or the web sensation Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog).

Synopsis:

Alfonso Cuarón directs from his own script, which was co-written by his son Jonas Cuarón. Warner Bros gave exhibitors a sneak peek at Gravity at CinemaCon but this is the first trailer for the space pic starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney in the two-hander about astronauts stranded in space after their space shuttle gets demolished during a spacewalk. The Alfonso Cuaron-directed movie will be released wide October 4 in 3D and IMAX after the studio pushed it back from its original November 2012 spot.

Synopsis:

Brian Helgeland’s historical sports drama/biopic 42 relates the historic 1947 baseball season in which Brooklyn Dodgers general manager Branch Rickey (Harrison Ford) decides to sign the first black Major League player, Jackie Robinson (Chadwick Boseman). Although Robinson faces ugly, vicious racism from other clubs, fans, and on occasion his own teammates, Rickey encourages him to not fight back. By following that advice, Robinson allows his remarkable athletic talent to speak for itself, and soon the first-year player becomes one the most popular players on the team, eventually securing the Rookie of the Year award. Christopher Meloni and Hamish Linklater co-star. In 1947, Branch Rickey put himself at the forefront of history when he signed Jackie Robinson to the Brooklyn Dodgers, breaking Major League Baseball’s infamous color line. But the deal also put both Robinson and Rickey in the firing line of the public, the press and other players.

Facing blatant racism from every side, even his own team, Robinson was forced to demonstrate tremendous courage and restraint by not reacting in kind, knowing that any incident could destroy his and Rickey’s hopes. Instead, Number 42 let his talent on the field do the talking—ultimately winning over fans and his teammates, silencing his critics, and paving the way for others to follow.
